Dum ke roat (also referred to as rote), are baked/cooked on dum, these are sweet and crispy sooji and maida flat cookies kind of delicacies made in Muharram. These are crunchy from the outside, but soft inside that melts in your mouth. This confectionery has all the goodness in them, including dry fruits, khoa, exotic saffron, and pure ghee.

Like it’s ingredients, Roat also has a rich traditional history about how it became a part of the Hyderabadi culture. Mir Osman Ali Khan, who was the 7th Nizam, went to the Naal-e-Mubarak Alam near the Charminar to pray for the prosperity and good health of this grandon, Mukarram Jah Bahadur. During that time, he put Roat over there as an offering. Even after all these years, people head to Naal-e-Mubarak and follow a practice of hitting the Roat for their near and dear ones.
